Tibet Now And Then

China's harsh and ham-fisted treatment of Tibet has been all over the news lately. Here's some fascinating video footage from Tibet during the 1940s, prior to the Chinese invasion in 1950. (no sound)

The small child riding a donkey is the current Dalai Lama at about the age of five. He had to leave Tibet in 1959 and has not been allowed to return. So many of the traditions seen in this video are now outlawed by the Chinese authorities.

Here's what's been going down in Tibet lately. It's amazing what cheap digital cameras and Youtube have done to help share politically powerful information.
