Taking internet memes to the next level

If Ole Miss students succeed in replacing Colonel Reb with minor Star Wars character Admiral Ackbar ("It's a trap!") it will probably be the best example of a completely inexplicable internet meme crossing over to real life. Could any single person supporting this ever explain to an elderly Ole Miss alum why this is funny? No way, but I don't know if that means it shouldn't happen.
