Tough Man, Soft Hair

Jim Palmer of the Baltimore Orioles may have been a tough and prepared baseball player, but he, like most men, wanted silky smooth hair. That's where Brylcream comes in.

  • Think of how much money a pitcher like Palmer would make today. As it is, he's a great broadcaster, putting most of his colleague on other teams to shame. He's for the Orioles, but not afraid to knock the team or a player when he feels it's justified. Like a lot of former players, he re-lives his Hall of Fame years sometimes too much, but that's preferable to relentlessly plumping the home team. He's 62, and probably has had some "work" done, since he looks 50, and is known for his Jockey commercials and Money Store ads. This early one from Brylcreem is typical of the fare that star ballplayers GRABBED when offered before the big cash came along with free agency.
