It confused me this past week seeing the MAGA meltdown over the Epstein files. Maybe one of the Trump sexual assault apologists who reads this site and loves to “burn the witch” will explain the phenomenon further in the comments section.
On March 14, Pam Bondi gave an interview to Fox News, answering a question about the Epstein client list, saying it was “sitting on my desk right now.” Fast forward to July 7th when the Justice Department casually released a memo declaring that suddenly there’s “no client list” (never mind that Ghislaine Maxwell got sent to prison for 20 years for sex trafficking kids). The memo created a flurry of angry MAGA backlash as Trump loyalists called for the resignation of Bondi; right-wingnut Laura Loomer claimed Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino are “LIVID” with her as Trump says the issue is a “desecration” and calls Epstein a “creep.” Meanwhile Elon Musk has indicated Trump is lying about Epstein files, Karoline Leavitt defended Bondi and Fox News used the harshly worded (for them) phrase “not pleased” to describe the loyal base response.
Why now? Which part is upsetting to you, blindly loyal diehard Trump loyalists? Are you upset that it happened at all, or are you upset about the coverup? Or are you upset that he’s covering it up because he was a part of it, or is it that you maybe can’t say it was all a Democrat scandal? You elected him knowing he was twice-impeached, had 34 felony counts, bankrupted six businesses and has been accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. You were okay with him saying he likes to “grab ‘em by the pussy,” that he had two immigrant wives despite all the strongman talk about deporting immigrants, and you were cool electing a president will all 88 of his criminal offenses. Of course there is evidence of Trump and Epstein with young girls. This surprises you?
It confuses me, as I watch posts of MAGA hats burning in charcoal grills, what the turning point is for these people. I’ve seen Tucker Carlson grilling Ted Cruz and Marjorie Taylor Greene having breakthrough “DOJ has some explaining to do” moments of clarity. Even the ghoulish Laura Loomer is admitting Republicans need to learn to “walk and chew gum at the same time.” How revolutionary.
It’s not satisfying to see the MAGA buyer’s remorse. I’ve seen some over-celebratory versions of this, with far-left bloggers’ eyeballs stuck in the backs of their heads from eyerolling, and I get it. But however divided, this is still a country we all need to live in. The more time we have to waste cleaning up disasters after mid-terms, the worse. “I told you so” isn’t comforting and accomplishes nothing.
The Democrats’ response to the Republican infighting was expected. Trying to force a vote to release the long-mysterious and debated files (within 30 days!) makes sense. For the love of Christ, put an end to all this. How many surprises could there really be on that list? The Supreme Court already gave Trump the perpetual magic wand of immunity, right? Let’s see what that can really do for the party of Christian values.
