Find Your Octopus

The Octopus Project, electronic-heavy rockers from Austin, have a very solid grounding in the thrashiest punk traditions. But with noise empressario/indie goth vixen Yvonne Lambert manning a table piled with theramins, pedals, and keyboards, their music adds a layer of soft spookiness from old Nintendo games. Here's a live performance of "Truck" from their third album Hello, Avalanche.

With their most recent album The Octopus Project have grown up, although their earlier albums are totally worth checking out. They're rocking Lollapalooza next weekend and are almost always on tour.

  • this is way cool. i love a band with a fierce bitch at the front. i love her flipped hair and that weird black dress. also, the guitarist with the long hair is super hot. it seems like you'd get tired of listening to the same sound over the course of an entire album, though... like that band battles...they're pretty good for like 10 minutes, but you just get sick of it after that.

  • Word on the Battles comment. I can't totally figure them out, but I do think they're more important live than as an iPod listen. The best Octopus Project for me is from their second album One Ten Hundred Thousand Million. The songs are pretty diverse in their structure, since I don't think that girl likes to repeat sounds.
