Book Expo America: Not Just for Books Anymore

Last weekend was Book Expo America 2008, a giant publishing industry festival where writers, publishers, and whoever else get together to hawk new titles. It seems like either  an extremely nerdy version of Burning Man, or an elementary school book fair on steroids. Here, a website interviews the maker of a "book digitizer."

BEA used to be more of a place for publishers to push their forthcoming Fall titles, but, like in every industry, the internet has reoriented the way books are bought, sold, and stored. The result is more and more booths like this one which offer technological solutions to various publishing issues. Via RedFence.

  • I'm looking forward to Book Expo 2055, when I unveil my booth where readers can have digitized Classics imported into their brain modules. Then I'll set 12 of them loose on my private island and hunt them one by one.
