Gays: Likeable Enough.

Fighting AIDS is not a get-out-of-homophobia-free card.

A question of ethics or political capital?:

Obama may not only overestimate his ability to bridge some of our fundamental differences but also underestimate how persistent some of those differences are. The exhilaration of his decisive election victory and the deserved applause that has greeted his mostly glitch-free transition can’t entirely mask the tensions underneath. Before there is profound social change, there is always high anxiety.

Discussion
  • I'm smelling a Frank Rich rebuke, less mild than this one, of Obama 'round about March, after the new President doesn't repudiate Rick Warren, ignores the silly "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy in the military, and doesn't bring about the "profound social change" quickly enough. It will be written, of course, more in sorrow than anger.
