NIU Police Chief in a bit of trouble

Donald Grady, one of the men honored for their heroism in the days after the Feb. 2008 campus shooting, is now undergoing a performance review after allegations that he threatened and later bribed the head of the campus newspaper to run a favorable story.

Northern Illinois University will undertake a performance review of Police Chief Donald Grady after a student journalist said he was threatened by Grady during what was to be an interview in the chief's office.

Justin Weaver, editor in chief of the Northern Star, NIU's campus newspaper, said he was asked in August by Grady's office to come to the chief's office to discuss Dexter Yarbrough, the former Colorado State University police chief who was hired as an entry-level police officer for NIU in June. Yarbrough resigned two weeks later after local media, including the Daily Chronicle, detailed two investigations by CSU into Yarbrough's conduct.
