When MTV Was Pure

Speaking of Michigan and MTV, I couldn't help but think of the Video Music Awards of 1999, quite possibly one of MTV's best years. I know, in my heart of hearts, that the opening sequence featured a full choir singing—in a full pun on the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want"—the chorus to Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba." I can't, for the life of me, find it, but I did find the rest of the Kid's performance featuring Run DMC and Aerosmith. OK, bear with me. I know the first few minutes are terrible, but surely you can appreciate how many mediocre genres are on display here by the end. Hit the jump for Blink 182's pre-show live version of "What's My Age Again" (one of the worst performances of any band of any caliber I have ever heard—though our best wishes go out to Travis Barker).
