From their 1971 album Surf's Up, this track is an attempt by the Beach Boys to go political with their songwriting. Their manager thought it would be a good way to stay relevant because--get this--back in those days fans of pop music also cared about politics. This is worth watching for the beards alone.

Discussion
  • Hadn't thought about this song in a long time. "Surf's Up" was an uneven album, although it had the first released, although truncated, version of the Brian Wilson-Van Dyke Parks masterpiece and title song of this recording, "Surf's Up."
