Smudging the Decks

Without overly endangering Palo Santo forests, it’s time for a new chapter.

It’s a new month on the week of a powerful full Gemini moon and I’m embracing the winds of change in my life. Cue the burning of ethically-sourced sage and palo santo. I’ve made a decision to start using my life achievement as a reiki master in joining a holistic practice in the nearby town of St. Michaels Maryland beginning next month.

This decision has been a long time coming. I’ve studied reiki for many years, completing the training for Reiki 1, 2, 3 and Reiki Master, with additional training in Ireland and Costa Rica, and work on my own, but wasn’t ready until now to begin practice. I had to wait until I was spiritually and energetically-grounded enough and secure in my journey in order to help others.

Reiki is a complementary therapy relating to energy healing. Proponents say it works through the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner’s palms to the client. The central concept is that the body has the ability to heal itself, so as practitioners, we’re working with energy to promote a clients’ intrinsic ability to heal their physical and emotional ailments; not completely (hence the use of the term “complementary”) but in addition to traditional medicine, the benefits of reiki have proved to be very helpful.

Balancing chakras is a classic activity of the reiki master as we align seven energy centers in the body, each with a unique meaning about our health, life, breath, mind, intellect, and overall sense of well-being. I’m pleased to dovetail my candle business into my new practice, having created a candle line that aligns with the seven chakras.

In order to be able to begin practicing reiki, I had to have my house in order. I’d been tied to a number of toxic energies that were holding me back. As an empath, it’s my nature to want to help others. This tendency can unfortunately lead to savior complex tendencies, where I’ve become overly involved with unhealthy or emotionally-abused individuals over the years, trying my best to bring joy and love to their lives in its absence.

The universe will keep bringing you a lesson until you learn it, and I finally have. Encountering people who struggle with abuse and other emotional trauma over time is an experience that’ll help me so that I can help others heal, but the key is not to take on that energy and let it affect my own. Continuing to study and practice meditation and grounding, in addition to clearing out negative energy, is essential as I move forward.

Choosing healthy relationships with individuals who bring positivity, thoughtfulness and the same passion I have for connection and healing will be essential as I go forward on this energetic path to help people make the choice to heal from the pain their bodies and hearts carry in order for my clients and me to face a new year and future vision embracing joy and peace.
