But you see, immigration then is different then immigration now. Then immigrants were assimilated into our society. They learned the language, they learned our customs and mores. They lived in our neighborhoods, not apart from our neighborhoods. They became Americans. Today, they do not assimilate. They do not learn our language. They live in their own areas and bring the same mores and customs from which they left to come to America. New immigrants, mostly illegal, do not pay, but recieve and others pay. The cultural diversity I susepct the author of this article supported has come back to bite very hard, and it will get harder. The author's friend is of the old that got caught up in the new. Too bad, but again I suspect the author's political views and actions in the past and today are in fact the cause of the deportation of his friend.
