Charles “Don” Alias: Unbelievable, man. It’s all happening.

Daniel Patrick Moynihan: No one’s come near the subject in terms of asking, you know, “Why has this happened”?

Alias: Yeah. [laughs] Deep down in my soul I knew that this was going to be some serious, monumental stuff.

Moynihan: We forget how free that earlier world was.

Alias: And I didn’t want to.

Moynihan: It’s true in Glasgow; it’s true in Buenos Aires, it’s true in Hyderabad.

Alias: My family's from St. Maarten in the West Indies and we were surrounded with the calypso thing, you know.

Moynihan: And then I had a Fulbright and went off to the London School of Economics with a GI Bill alongside me. I could be wrong.

Alias: That’s right. That’s another story. Everything was available to us because it was a rock band, psychedelic, the whole thing.

Moynihan: But then something happened, which I do think had probably not happened before.

Alias: Remember we were in the revolution now. And all hell broke loose.

Moynihan: And people got very upset.

Alias: Oh, big time, man, big time.

Moynihan: Well, it's not very good, but, you know, it's not that awful.

Alias: I can't tell you what the bathrooms looked like.
