Michael Lavine: When he called me 3 days before the shoot to tell me he had been handed a big job, I had to scramble.
Anthony Gonzalez: (Laughs) He could have yelled at me, but, no, he understood.
Lavine: Actually, no. And the rest is history.
Gonzalez: That was the start of my breakup with Paris.
Lavine: I love the whole process and I hope I get a chance to experience that joy again.

Gonzalez: We just locked ourselves in a house that we rented for two months. It was two hours outside of Paris, in the middle of nowhere.
Lavine: I have a big field on my property and it’s desolate and harsh looking in the winter.
Gonzalez: Everything is glued together beautifully.
Lavine: But on the other hand, once you’re dead, you have nothing left to worry about.
Gonzalez: It was a really bad period for me.

Lavine: We shot on an Arri Mini and at 2k literally everything was out of focus, but at full rez the images looked just the right amount of stunning.
Gonzalez: Not dark, but cold.
Lavine: A classic gothic sentiment.
Gonzalez: We didn't know what we were doing.
Lavine: That story is still living inside my head.
