Fela Kuti, Jay-Z and Broadway

Yes, there I was reason I put up a Fela Kuti video: The thought of a Fela-inspired musical on Broadway put me in a great mood.

'THE Color Purple" had Oprah - and "Fela!" may get Jay-Z.

According to my vast network of sources in the hip-hop world,

Jay-Z and Beyoncé have fallen completely under the spell of Bill T. Jones' thrilling new musical at 37 Arts.

Now, as plans take shape to move the show to Broadway, word is that Jay-Z may get behind it in a very big way.

It's unclear if he'd invest in the show (probably not, one source says), but he could give it his seal of approval. And with a hefty media empire at his disposal, a nod from him would create immense interest in the show.

"Let me put it to you this way," says one of my hip-hop spies. "If Jay-Z starts talking up the show anywhere, there are going to be a lot of people outside the theater every night."
