KeysNKrates

Just when the remix/mash-up era was spiraling into a dull exercise here comes a band that literally redefines the production. KeysNKrates is a three-piece ensemble with DJ JRFLO on the turntables, Matisse playing keyboard, and Tune on drums. Unlike other bands that post song after new song on their Myspace page, KeysNKrates relies heavily on its Youtube video channel. There are a dozen or so videos of the band blowing up block parties from Vancouver to Toronto, while their Myspace page contains one lonely studio track. I don't know how well KeysNKrates will translate in the form of a full album—which they will undoubtedly make as their popularity rises—but for now, check out these fresh live takes of hip-hop classics (the second one here).
